Penn State Football Stomps Purdue 35-7

The Purdue football team faced a perfect storm of unfortunate circumstances in their game Saturday. Both of their best offensive players were out with injuries. The weakest pass defense in the confrence went up against a strong air attack. And a generally inexperienced team with ten freshman in the starting lineup was forced to try to pick up the slack.

All of those challenges, compounded with a road trip to the home of the 12th-ranked team in college football in Penn State. As a result, Purdue was dominated 35-7 by the Nittany Lions.

With Elijah Sindelar at quarterback and Rondale Moore at wide receiver, Purdue's offense  was the number one ranked pass offense in the conference. Without them it has floundered - and the rushing game has been anemic all year. Unable to move the ball either way, Purdue better only 93 yards of total offense Saturday.

Redshirt freshman quarterback Jack Plummer was sacked ten times on the day for a total loss of 65 yards. He would finish the day going 13-27 for 119 passing yards and one passing touchdown to Amad Anderson.

The defensive side of the ball did not look much better as Penn State found the endzone on their first four possessions. On the day, Penn State quarterback Sean Clifford passed for three scores and rushed for another.

The Boilers’ defense did play well after allowing PSU to build a 28-7 advantage. From the middle of the second quarter to the middle of the fourth, the defense forced multiple three-and-outs, grinding the high-powered Nittany Lion offense to a halt.

A late score on the ground by running back Noah Cain after a long drive put an exclamation point on the game for the Nittany Lions.

Purdue will return to Ross-Ade Stadium next weekend to face the Maryland Terrapins.
