Purdue Coach Says Players Tested Well Ahead of Texas Game

Purdue’s basketball team has been in a bubble since Monday, as part of an effort to reduce the spread of COVID-19 during March Madness.

At a press conference on Wednesday, Purdue Coach Matt Painter outlined how COVID has affected their preparation around the championship.

He said normally the team would have had about two days to prepare at an arena.

“Now you get here on Monday and you don’t play until Friday night so you have time,” he said. “There’s no rush. What’s the point of doing something for four days when you can do something for two days? It’s basketball. We’re not running flea flickers here.”

In his downtime, Coach Painter said he’s been watching a lot of taped games. He said the team has tested negative for COVID.

Purdue plays North Texas on Friday in Indianapolis.
