Ozone, pollution ratings in new report

The American Lung Association is out with its annual air quality report. The study shows improvements from when the State of the Air surveys began 14 years ago.

The Lafayette-Frankfort metro area is average or slightly above average for pollution according to a new report. The Association gives the area, which includes Tippecanoe, Benton, Carroll and Clinton counties, a B grade when it comes to high ozone days. As far as particle pollution goes, the area earned a C grade for short-term pollution and a “Pass” grade for long-term pollution.

The metro area's rankings are:

  • 155 for high ozone days out of 277 metropolitan areas
  • 79 for 24-hour particle pollution out of 277 metropolitan areas
  • 74 for annual particle pollution out of 277 metropolitan areas

The report shows 236,712 people live in the four counties and 9.5% of children and adults in the area have asthma. You can see the full report HERE.
