Boudia Wins Gold!

David Boudia said he wanted to enjoy the Olympic experience in London more than his first time around four years ago in Beijing.

That shouldn't be too hard.

The former Purdue diver won gold in the individual ten meter platform event, Saturday.

He topped China's Qiu Bo by less than two points with Britain's Tom Daley winning bronze.  Bo came into the games as the heavy favorite.

Boudia almost didn't even get the chance to compete for gold.  He was the final qualifier into the semifinals after a slow start, Friday.

In the semis, he came in third setting him up for the medal round.

In the finals, Boudia led midway through the competition before Daley jumped ahead.  Daley entered the final dive with a slim lead with Boudia and Qiu Bo tied behind him.

Boudia posted his best score of the round on his last dive; a 102.60 on at Back 2 1/2 Somersault 2 1/2 Twists.  It was good enough to pass both Daley and Bo.

With the win, Boudia becomes the first American man to medal at the Olympics since 1996 and first to win gold since Greg Louganis in 1988.

Boudia also won bronze in London with his partner Nick McCrory.

The Noblesville native dove at Purdue from 2009-2011 before turning pro.
