SIA plant continues to grow

Subaru of Indiana Automotive is expected to increase production with a new model line.

Fuji Heavy Industries, the parent company of Subaru and SIA, announced its production plans for the coming years. Those include boosting output at the Lafayette plant.

That will include production of a new model in 2016. More details will be announced around the end of March.

The SIA plant is undergoing a $75 million build-out, creating a 52,000 square-foot space in the body assembly section.

SIA Executive Vice President Tom Easterday said last year there is strong customer demand for the Outback and Legacy models, but after the expansion is completed, the plant would be near capacity.
