Greg Pence Meets With Farmers In Closed-Door Shelbyville Roundtable

Brock Turner

U.S. Rep. Greg Pence (R-District 6) met with farmers Wednesday during a closed-door meeting in Shelbyville.

Reporters weren’t allowed inside, but the congressman says he heard from a number of farmers on issues ranging from immigration to tariffs and trade.

Pence says he trusts President Donald Trump to take care of farmers and mitigate their potential losses.

"It’s really up to the administration to lead and tell us where they’re going to go next," he says. "It’s our oversight responsibility to kind of monitor that."

Most farmers at the event say they're pleased with the way Pence has performed in his first term. They, like many farmers, believe in the Republican party's agenda and trust Trump to take care of the trade situation that has caused net farm incomes to decline.

Pence, the older brother of Vice President Mike Pence, would not elaborate on his plans to help farmers. The first-term congressman says he’s "just started" hearing the concerns of farmers and plans to champion those concerns. He assumed office in January.
