Lawrence Clark: https://www.indyartsguide.org/program/drum-dialogues/ Steven Weakly: https://www.facebook.com/stevenweakleyguitar/?business_id=10152592499697447 Lynn Colwell: Lynn Colwell has been a music educator and performer in the Lafayette, Indiana area since 1989. Tony Zamora: Remarks by Don Seybold For a quarter of a century Tony Zamora directed the Black Cultural Center at Purdue University, taking it from a fledgling operation to one of the most respected and admired in the country. He influenced thousands of students as a mentor, advisor, and role model, and many of them have stayed in direct contact with him--sharing their lives and families with him over the years. But Tony was also a leader on campus and in the community, gaining respect for his willingness to engage difficult and/or important issues, always bringing his calm wisdom and strong principles to seek solutions and progress. After retirement he remained active in the community in many ways, including bringing his music and musical knowledge to schools and students, not just in greater Lafayette but also to surrounding communities and schools. Of course, there are many who only knew Tony through hearing his groups play in clubs and venues all over the city. He hired great musicians who loved to play with and for him--some driving hundreds of miles for the privilege and pleasure. He is exactly the kind of leader as a musician as he is in all his other endeavors--allowing his colleagues enough space, freedom, and structure for them to discover who they were and what they were capable of. Many young musicians were given the opportunity to sit in with the band and learn in real performance situations. Some of them went on to be professional musicians after becoming regular members of the TZ Jazz Ensemble. A Tony Zamora concert was always a happy community event. In concerts, in meetings, in all things with which he is involved, Tony always makes things better, including the people around him. He has high expectations for everyone, coupled with a sly irrepressible humor and positive attitude that is truly infectious, uplifting, and irresistible. He epitomizes how strength and wisdom need not be loud nor aggressive, but rather informed, assured, and sensitively assertive.
