Learn about the life and career of the 4-time Emmy nominee and Oscar winner as she shares her story in her native American Sign Language. Popcorn and water will be available. In collaboration with InTRAC/Relay Indiana, Indiana Association of the Deaf and the Purdue ASL Club.

Nine Irish Brothers Traditional Irish Pub hosts a community trad session Wednesday evenings at seven pm. Trad sessions--short for traditional Irish sessions, are a community-led participatory event in which local musicians bring their instruments and play traditional Irish music. Musicians who play Irish instruments or who are striving to learn are welcome to join in, and all members of the community are welcome to enjoy the music and ambiance.

No experience or partner needed.WHAT: Learn dances led by a caller, dancing to live music with a group of people!WHERE: 333 Meridian Street in West Lafayette - enter through the playground gateWHEN: Second Saturday of the month at 5:30PM for beginner lesson, dance from 6-8PMWHY: It's good for your mental health--let's build community!HOW: Dances are made possible through sponsorship from Indiana Fiddlers Gathering and participants who give what they can ($5-20) to support our caller and band.--What is Contra Dance?Contra dance is a form of folk dancing made up of long lines of couples. A caller leads the dance, teaching the steps and calling out moves. It's great fun for all ages.Unlike some other social dances, contra is a group activity. Over the course of each dance, you interact with everyone in your contra line. Your partner is like a teammate, moving with you up and down the line.

The Frankfort Community Public Library is holding an Ancestry Lock-in in the Earl J. Culver Genealogy Area on Friday, Aug. 21 from 5 to 9 p.m. Staff will be on-hand to answer questions and assist participants in using Ancestry Library Edition. Public computers will be available for use, or researchers may bring their own devices and connect to the Wi-Fi. The cost of the lock-in is $2.
Researchers may bring dinner or a snack to eat in Harry’s Coffee Bar when they need to take a break. The library closes at 5 p.m., and participants should arrive before that time.
