TSC changing some school boundaries

Tippecanoe School Corporation is trying to alleviate overcrowding at two of its schools.

The board approved boundary changes for students in the Klondike and Woodland elementary districts. Klondike students now have the option to go to Burnett Creek Elementary and those at Woodland can attend Dayton Elementary.

Superintendent Scott Hanback points to a growing district as the reason for the change.

“This will allow us to equalize our student enrollment populations across those schools to more efficiently and effectively capitalize on our schools’ capacity.”

To help even further with capacity needs, Hanback says the district is looking to add classrooms at Burnett Creek and Woodland.

“Klondike is at 1,100 students. Woodland Elementary is 580 students. Both of those are at, if not over, capacity. That’s what’s prompted this. We have an immediate capacity need at both of those schools.”

Hanback hopes parents make a decision in the next two months, so the district can make the proper arrangements.

New boundaries and possibly adding more classrooms are phases one and two of the plan to help with overcrowding in the district.

The third phase is identifying potential land acquisition.
