Search underway to fill TSC board vacancy

The Tippecanoe School Corporation expects to fill its vacant board seat next month.

Alan Kemper decided not to run for re-election in District Five and no one decided to put their name on the November ballot.

But, Superintendent Scott Hanback says he is pleased with the number of people now interested in filling the position.

"That was somewhat surprising, to say the least," he said.  "Maybe they considered the fact that there is a difference from running for an office and interviewing and being appointed.  But, those are the questions the board was able to communicate and converse with the interested folks."

Nine candidates applied to fill the open seat.

The board met with them, Wednesday.

Hanback says whoever is selected needs to be committed to collaborating with the other members.

"We are looking for somebody who can work with the board, work with the other six members on the board, present opinions, even differing opinions at times and being able to work through that process and ultimately be able to come to a consensus and move the district forward," he said.

A decision on who will serve on the board could come at TSC's January 9th board meeting.
