Run For Dan Coats' Seat Adds Another Contender

Indiana Public Broadcasting

Congressman Todd Young (R-9th) Sunday confirmed widespread speculation, joining what’s now a crowded Republican primary for U.S. Senator Dan Coats’ seat.

There had been expectations circling for weeks that Young, a two-term congressman and former Marine, would join the race to replace Dan Coats.  Those expectations were boosted by recent fundraising numbers showing a one million dollar haul last quarter for the Bloomington attorney.

And in a web video released Sunday, Young officially threw his hat into the ring.  The video focuses on Young’s life story, emphasizing his opposition to the Affordable Care Act, his military service, and pro-life position.

Young himself appears only briefly, saying he owes everything to God, his family, the Naval Academy, and the Marine Corps.

“And the best way I can think of to give back is to ensure every Hoosier family enjoys a better future.  That’s why I’m running for U.S. Senate.”

Young becomes the third member of the GOP primary, joining former state party chair Eric Holcomb and Congressman Marlin Stutzman (R-3rd).
