Northwestern Avenue Gateway Project to get underway this summer

West Lafayette officials are hoping to turn a portion of Northwestern Avenue into a more welcoming entrance to the city from U-S 52.

Public Works director Dave Buck says the Gateway Project stretches from the roundabout at Yeager Road to just South of Lindberg Road.

It includes rebuilding the roadway median, as well as new pedestrian paths, lighting, and landscaping.

Buck says the work is scheduled for this summer.

Traffic will be reduced from four lanes to two during construction.

Buck says once the $2-million project is complete, the state Department of Transportation will repave Northwestern from US 52 continuing on US 231 to River Road.

IN-DOT then plans to transfer responsibility for Northwestern Avenue to the city.
