Commissioners give final approval to fireworks restrictions

The use of fireworks in the unincorporated parts of Tippecanoe County has been restricted.

Last month, Commissioners voted to have the county guidelines match state law.

That limits use of fireworks to June 29th through July 9th, New Year's Eve, and New Year's Day.

But after input from residents, commissioners changed the ordinance to only include areas inside what is called the Adjusted Urban Area Boundary, which are the most populated parts of the county.

Resident Barbara Willis is grateful officials found a compromise to address her concerns while leaving people living in rural areas free of restrictions.

Commissioners approved the ordinance by a vote of two-to-one.

John Knochel voted against the guidelines saying it will be too difficult for police to enforce.
