This week, the Indiana Association of Cities and Towns conference in French Lick will cover how the state’s municipalities are balancing ways to provide services for their citizens while reducing spending.

IACT Executive Director Matt Greller says the issues are the same for every community--big and small.

“[While we're] still worried about plowing the streets and making sure that the sidewalks are in good order and making sure the trash is picked up,” says Greller, “we’re really starting, I think, to focus more on quality of place, quality of life, walkability, parks, parks and recreation programing; the kinds of things that really make you want to live in a community.”

About 800 local officials will converge on Orange County for the 3-day meeting to discuss Indiana’s communities.

“There’s a notion today that you know I think most people when they graduate from college, choose where they want to live before they have a job and if we’re not creating quality cities for those folks to live in then the workforce is going to suffer and we are not going to attract those good jobs,” says Greller.
