Frankfort To Resume Normal Recycling Pickup In January

Taylor Haggerty

Frankfort will return to weekly, citywide recycling collection next month. The switch comes after a July fire leveled local recycling facility Werner and Son, forcing the creation of a staggered pickup schedule that divided the city into four sections, with each quadrant collected one week a month.

According to a press release, residents should expect the resumption of normal pickups on Jan. 8. One new rule stipulates while plastic, paper, cardboard, and aluminum products can still be put on the curb, glass items cannot.

Delphi Mayor Shane Evans says bi-weekly recycling pick-ups for Delphi, also served by the Werner and Son facility, resumed in November. Evans says residents were able to take their recyclables to the Carroll County Transfer Station in September and October after the city suspended its usual service.

“From conversations I’ve had with people around town, it seems like quite a few people did take their recycling up to the county site,” Evans says.

Frankfort residents will still be able to leave their recyclables (including glass) at the Frankfort Street Department’s location on Burlington Avenue. There are no recycling pickups scheduled for Dec. 25 or Jan. 1.
