Union Hotel To Hold Furniture Liquidation Sale Ahead Of Renovations

The first phase of renovations at the Purdue Union Hotel is well underway as workers are cleaning out nearly 200 hotel rooms for the furniture liquidation sale this weekend.

The sale will include televisions, framed artwork, furniture, and miscellaneous items ranging from Bibles to showerheads. The sale will take place Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., and then Monday and Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Memorial Union Senior Director Zane Reif says anyone hoping to make a purchase should plan on arriving early.

“There’s a lot of great equipment that people could probably use in their day-to-day lives, so we expect quite a turnout from the community,” Reif says.

Reif says anything that doesn’t get sold will go to Purdue Surplus, which has been working with the Union on the sale.

He says once the sale is over, they can start working on more intensive parts of the renovation process.

“The actual demolition and some of that, that you would consider actual real construction, probably won’t happen for a couple of weeks,” Reif says. “But this is kind of the first phase to get us to that demolition part.”

The hotel renovations are slated to be complete August 2020. Reif says they’re on schedule to meet that deadline.
