IU Health Arnett clarifies medical error

The Vice President of Quality and Patient Safety at Lafayette's IU Health Arnett Hospital says a new study does not accurately portray an incident that occurred at the facility.

The state Department of Health cited the hospital for performing an operation on the wrong body part of a patient.

However, Jim Bien says what actually happened is an anesthetic was applied to the wrong leg.

He says the mistake was discovered before surgery and the operation went as planned.

The department of health's report cited 107 errors at hospitals last year.

That is the most in the five year history of the study.
