United Way of Greater Lafayette hits fundraising target

Thousands of donations have added up to a successful campaign for the United Way of Greater Lafayette.

The organization surpassed it $4.6 million goal by more than $10,000.

Purdue Dean of Agriculture Jay Akridge chaired the campaign committee. He says it was a critical year to meet the goal, because the need for help is so great. Akridge says so many people in the community know first hand the help offered by such nonprofits as Food Finders Food Bank, Big Brothers Big Sisters, and Riggs Community Health Center.

Bill Olds is the president of the Lafayette Life Foundation, and served as the first vice chairman for this year's campaign. He says exceeding the goal is a good example of the community's spirit.

The local chapter helps fund 23 nonprofits in the Lafayette area, including Hanna Community Center, Legal Aid, and The Center at Jenks Rest.
