The Lafayette School Corporation is selling $2-million in general obligation bonds to improve its technology.
The bulk of the funds- about $1.6-million - is to expand the wireless network at Jefferson High School.
Superintendent Les Huddle says LSC’s current system is not adequate.
“It's limited and it's certainly not to the text standards that we want things," he said. "As text books and other types of activities are moving that way in the educational world, we kind of want to make sure that we have the latest and greatest wireless systems for our students and staff.”
Huddle believes the infrastructure is needed to keep up with how students learn.
“It's becoming more important as an education tool now," he said. "When you bring in 30 wireless laptops for a classroom, you need to have the capability for all the kids to get on. You don't want four or five of them bumped off constantly.”
The rest of the money is going to ready the district’s other buildings for improved wireless capabilities.
Huddle hopes to have Jefferson’s network set up by the start of next school year and then begin working on LSC’s other facilities.
