Tippecanoe County bans fireworks indefinitely

Dry weather is forcing Tippecanoe County to extend its restrictions on fireworks.

The commission signed a measure banning the use of those explosives indefinitely.

President Tom Murtaugh says, however, that public fireworks shows can go on.

The ban went into effect this afternoon.

State law normally allows private displays of fireworks starting June 29th, but Murtaugh says the commission is able to supersede that law with its restrictions, because it’s considered an emergency situation.
