United Way campaign effort at 64% with under a month to go

The United Way of Greater Lafayette is almost two-thirds of the way to meeting its annual goal. However, the man leading the effort this year says they have a lot of ground to make up.

Bill Olds, campaign chairman, says compared to past years, they’re just a little behind where they should be.

"We're asking everybody to have a sense of urgency at this point in the campaign," he says. "We're really reaching a lot of people and our service bases are widespread across the community, so there are plenty reasons to contribute."

The goal is to raise $4.75 million by November 15. He says Purdue’s effort is about 17% below its target, but there's time to reach it.

Olds says the campaign is efficient for the 23 service agencies who benefit from the funds. He thinks it’s better for the United Way to do the work instead of the organizations doing it independently, and that it’s efficient for those who want to give.

"You can be assured the United Way is the one doing all the homework and checking on all these organizations as to where the money is going and making sure that it's not wasted."

The United Way campaign wraps up November 15th. You can make a donation HERE.
