YWCA Greater Lafayette expanding children's groups

More children are able to attend support groups offered at YWCA Greater Lafayette.

Until now, only children of adults going to support groups could take part. However, Lisa Green, director of marketing and communication, says they want to grow the groups.

“There is that need out in the community, especially with things that children go through – the bullying, safety, self-esteem – so we wanted to be able to offer that to all children in the community.”

Anyone age six and up can attend under the program expansion. Green says topics include positive relationships and getting in touch with their feelings.

“There are crafts, activities and games, but it’s also a learning environment with some education involved as well to help these children build their character, their family and feelings and communication skills.”

The different support groups are offered Tuesday through Thursday. A tutoring session is offered Monday and Wednesday nights as well.
