The Indiana Department of Education has shut down its website after what it says was an attempted hacking.

A release from the department says the site was shut down this morning, though it does not say when it became apparent that someone was trying to access the site from the outside. DOE spokesman Dan Altman says a Drupal vulnerability was the cause of the attempted hacking. But Altman says there is no sign so far that data on the Education Department‘s website were stolen.

"But in order to make sure that everything stays safe, we made the decision to pull the website down so that we could then assess and deal with the issue," says Altman.

Drupal is the content management system used by almost a million websites worldwide, and Drupal came under attack on Friday just over two weeks after Drupal announced a security flaw that could allow attackers to steal data or compromise web sites.

Drupal‘s warning told its users they probably only had hours to update their software before attacks compromised their system.
