Tippecanoe County crafting 2013 budget

Tippecanoe County could end 2012 with a general fund cash balance of as much as $3.5-million.

That’s the assessment of auditor Jennifer Weston as the county council moves through budget hearings today and tomorrow.

The 2013 budget as proposed has a roughly $900,000 gap between estimated expenses and revenue.

Council president Roland Winger thinks officials still need to look for potential cuts, despite being on more solid financial ground than in past years.

The $39-million spending plan includes $750,000 for employee raises.

That would bring all salaries within the county up to fair market rate, according to a 2009 study.

Budget hearings continue tomorrow, wrapping up with an initial vote by the Council.

A public hearing on the 2013 spending plan is set for September 20th.
