An ethics committee investigating charges against former state school superintendent Tony Bennett is considering a settlement.
The inspector general filed an ethics complaint against Bennett in November alleging he used government resources during his re-election campaign in 2012.
The accusations against Bennett allege he kept databases of campaign donors and used government resources during his 2012 re-election campaign against current state superintendent Glenda Ritz.
The State Ethics Commission announced today it will consider a settlement regarding Bennett’s case at its public meeting Thursday.
Attorney Jason Barclay represents Bennett and says details of the settlement and a report on the complaint will be available after Thursday’s meeting.
After losing to Ritz in the 2012 election, Bennett served as the Florida Commissioner of Education. He resigned eight months into the job amid allegations he and his team changed school’s letter grades while he was schools chief in Indiana.
