State seeking feedback from NIPSCO customers

The Office of the Utility Consumer Counselor is taking input from customers of Northern Indiana Public Service Company (NIPSCO) on a proposed natural gas rate hike.

The Merrillville-based company has proposed the rate hike to fund system wide improvements totaling $713 million.

The planned projects are throughout NIPSCO's natural gas service territory. Those include replacement of aging infrastructure, new transmission mains, the installation of automated valves, and expansion into rural areas that currently do not have natural gas service.

The work will take over a seven year period, beginning in 2014, if approved. The rate increases would run from 2015 to 2020 and average about 1.4% each year.

More information about NIPSCO’s plan is HERE.
