TSC moving forward with facility upgrades this summer

Permanent classroom space is being added to a local elementary school. Tippecanoe School Corporation board members approved a bid to replace some portable classrooms at Wea Ridge with a new addition to the building.

Superintendent Scott Hanback says the temporary rooms are still functional, but the time has come to upgrade.

"Over time they're just not the best plan for kids. We want to get them inside a brick-and-mortar building from a safety standpoint, from a technology standpoint, integration."

He says the decision also is motivated by the high cost of heating and cooling the portable rooms. Construction is estimated to cost nearly $4.2 million.

The TSC board also approved the hire of two principals and two assistant principals.

At Harrison High School, Al Remaly is replacing Principal Doug Leslie, who is set to retire after ten years. Remaly is currently the principal at Northwestern High School in Kokomo.

Hanback says the corporation had less notice on a vacancy at Mayflower Mill Elementary, resulting in a quicker hiring process.

"We had a couple of options. We could have done a regular posting like we had done for the Harrison search, but time was not on our side. So the other option we had is more of a targeted approach, and think about our network of administrative candidates that we're familiar with."

Current Otterbein Elementary School principal Shannon Cauble is filling the position being vacated by Mindy Higgins who is moving out of state.

In addition new assistant principals are stepping in at Burnett Creek and Woodland elementary schools.
