TSC enters rental agreement with church

The Tippecanoe School Corporation is getting an idea about the amount of damage done to two of its buildings by tornadoes.

Southwestern Middle and Mintonye Elementary schools have been closed since the storms hit last November.

The preliminary estimates are that $12-million of damage was done to the two facilities.

Students in kindergarten through sixth grades have been attending classes at nearby First Assembly Community Ministries.

The TSC board last night approved a memorandum of understanding with the church to continue using the facility at a cost of $24,815 a month, plus the district’s share of utilities and trash pickup.

The agreement is on a month-to-month basis through the end of May for now.

Corporation officials say the goal is to have Mintonye open in August with Southwestern open as soon as possible after that.
