Tickling the ivories – what a wonderful phrase to describe playing the piano! We’re amazed about how many keyboard artists are on the rise, and how many recordings are around of the great masters.
We’ll hear from piano players young and old, and music from Bach to Adams on today’s What’s New.
We feature Liza Stepanova, Tanya Gabrielian, Byron Janis, Pierre-Laurent Aimard, Lomazov-Rackers Piano Duo, Stewart Goodyear, Holger Groschopp, and Lara Downes!
Pierre-Laurent Aimard is releasing Olivier Messiaen’s complete Catalogue d’Oiseaux on March 30 as his first Pentatone album. Aimard had close ties to the Messiaen and his wife, Yvonne Loriod, for whom Messiaen wrote the masterpiece. Praised by The Guardian as "one of the best Messiaen interpreters around," this marks Pierre-Laurent’s first recording of Messiaen’s demanding and colorful composition. The three CD set also contains a bonus DVD which Aimard shares his insights and love for Messiaen’s work from behind the piano.
What’s New is a production of WBAA, a listener supported broadcast service of Purdue University.
